Montclair State University women's basketball hosted Ursinus yesterday in the Mike Scala Memorial Classic Tournament as they were trying to go 500 and Ursinus having a strong start to their season. Montclair honored the Scala family before the game as his daughter spoke also. Mike passed away last year with cancer and what a way to honor him with a Memorial Tournament underneath his name. Ursinus was a tough team coming into this matchup being three games over 500. Let's find out what happens in this game to see who comes out on top.
Ursinus got off to a strong start in this game during the first quarter as their defense was fantastic and offense going off. They put Montclair in the back burner early hitting most of their shifts while Montclair's offense was non existent. Ursinus only gave up 9 points and scored 18 with all momentum going into second quarter. Montclair started to play better in next quarter with good looks at the basket, defense switching up and cutting down on some mistakes. They cut Ursinus lead to 5 heading into halftime at 28-23 getting some confidence back.
Montclair got off to a much better start in third quarter with their halftime adjustments with Ursinus struggling a little bit after the break. Montclair's defense stepped up putting more pressure on their offense. They scored 17 points while giving up 11 which gave them a 40-39 lead against Ursinus heading into the fourth quarter. The last quarter was a different story as Montclair was off and struggled big time. Ursinus defense came up clutch as they were locked in. They shot the ball well in fourth quarter which was a big difference and made it tough for Montclair to win this game. Ursinus ended up winning this game 53-46 improving to 7-3 and Montclair drops to 5-7.
