"Southern Girls Basketball Are On A Hot Streak Right Now Winning Their Seventh Straight Game Against Marlboro High School In Dominant Fashion"

Southern girls basketball is considered one of the tops teams right now in high school girls basketball sitting at 12-3 this season and it showed yesterday why they are. Marlboro was the opponent for them as this team is a having a season that they want to forget real quick at 1-12. Marlboro is a young team lead by Brad Hagensen and Senior Lia Villa who brings tons of experience. Sean Sweeney for Southern is regarded one of the top coaches in all of highschool basketball when it comes to game planning, style and system for his players. Casey Collins who is a junior is one of Southern's top players on their team and continues to improve.


This matchup would be a tough test for Marlboro because of Southern's size, length and they can shoot lights out from anywhere on the floor. Skylar Soltis who is a senior for Southern is a tall center who can rebound, shoot jump shots from time to time, pass the ball and a force down low near the basket. Marlboro needed to be ready for all possible outcomes against a team like this and not to make mistakes or they will hurt you. Southern has five seniors on their team which helps them with the experience factor.


Southern was locked in right from the beginning against Marlboro as they went on a quick 7-0 run along with outstanding defense. They had success with second chance points early on the rebounding side which hurt Marlboro big time. The Mustangs had trouble taking care for the ball against Southern and they took advantage of their mistakes by getting points off turnovers. Marlboro did not score a point in the first quarter as Southern went on a 15-0 run going into the second quarter. Marlboro finally scored early in the quarter but Southern was still playing on another level. They had a 29-9 lead going into halftime and the Mustangs needed to make adjustments real quick.


Casey Collins, Lindsey Kelly, Samantha Russell, Brielle Romano, Skylar Soltis and Avery Dipietro all stepped up big time and were on point for Southern against Marlboro. Southern controlled the whole game outscoring them in second half 17-7 and winning by a score of 46-16. This is Southern's seventh straight win of the season as they improve to 12-3 and continue to be one of the most consistent/dominant teams in high school girls basketball. Southern's next game will be against Toms River South tomorrow at 6:30 Pm Eastern.
