It was a 12:00 start today for Rutgers Scarlet Knights women's basketball as they faced Saint Francis live at the Jersey Mike's Arena. In this matchup, Scarlet Knights were looking to go above 500 while Saint Francis was trying hard for their first win of season. The key players for Saint Francis in order to have success against Rutgers were Mya Petticord, Kaylene Smikle, Antonia Bates, Destiny Adams and Chyna Cornwell who is averaging a double double so far this season.
Saint Francis started the game off strong getting a early momentum against Rutgers defense as the Scarlet Knights was still trying to get into rhythm. Saint Francis had a 5-2 lead, then Rutgers never looked back after as they went on a 22 plus run against their defense finishing the first quarter strong leading 24-7 heading into the second quarter. Rutgers got easy looks while the defense did a better job of keeping Saint Francis off balance and out of sorts. Rutgers had all the momentum but Saint Francis started to make a run themselves.
Rutgers Scarlet Knights defense struggled a little bit as Saint Francis was able to get better looks at the basket and played better defense. They cut Rutgers lead to 13 while scoring 15 and giving up 11 in the second quarter. Scarlet Knights didn't have the same rhythm like in first quarter with Saint Francis getting some momentum back heading into halftime as the score was 35-22. The biggest question for Saint Francis in this game was if they can keep the pressure against Rutgers and keep it close. But Scarlet Knights didn't let up, kept going and played their game.
The second half was dominated by Rutgers outscoring Saint Francis 45-29 and winning by a score of 80-51 improving to 3-2 this season while Saint Francis falls to 0-4 with a lot of questions to bs answered. Scarlet Knights as a team had 20 points off turnovers, 10 second chance points, 37 bench points, 24 points in the paint and 21 fast break points which helped them with this dominating victory.
