Rutgers Scarlet Knights and Miami Hurricanes were facing each other at Yankees Stadium for the Bad Boy Mowers Pinstripe Bowl with a packed house in hand for this game. Head Coach Greg Schiano and Scarlet Knights was trying to do something special for the fans with looking for their first Bowl win in 10 years. Some of my friends were at the game and they said it was mostly filled with Rutgers fans, some Miami fans also. The Scarlet Knights going in knew that it was going to be tough with Miami Hurricanes being a power house team over the years. The team has been thru a lot of adversity this season but didn't give up.
Scarlet Knights took notice this season after starting 3-0 early during the year with high expectations now with coach Greg Schiano back as head coach. Everyone wanted to see how they competed against teams like Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State, Iowa and others in the Big Ten which has always been a huge test for them since joining the conference. Rutgers struggled against tops teams this year which made it a up and down season but kept on fighting till the end. This team was different from the past making it tough on better opponents and getting a chance to win a game. They ended up being 6-6 this season and having a Bowl game against Miami Hurricanes at Yankees Stadium. Head coach Schiano did a fantastic job of keeping his team focused and locked in during the tough times.
The first quarter Rutgers started off strong behind their quarterback Gavin Wimsatt who improved every game this season and going to become a star in my opinion. Their defense set the tone early against Miami Hurricanes offense getting big stops and it helped give confidence to offense. Scarlet Knights had a 7-0 lead going into the second quarter with momentum but Miami started to make a run in Second quarter. The Hurricanes put some better drives on offense against Rutgers defense as they kept this game close. Scarlet Knights were able to get another touchdown before halftime but only had a 14-10 lead going into break. Miami got some momentum back in second quarter.
Second half both teams started to put more pressure on defense with Rutgers and Miami each scoring a touchdown in third quarter. Scarlet Knights did a great job of extending their lead whenever the Hurricanes scored. They didn't let this game slip, kept on playing til the end and stayed composed. Heading into the fourth quarter, Rutgers had a 21-17 lead making it a fun game towards the end. Can Rutgers Keep this lead or does Miami have other plans, let's find out. It was still close to start the fourth but Rutgers scored a big touchdown to make it 28-17, then hit a field goal taking a 31-17 lead. But Miami made it more interesting at the end scoring a late touchdown cutting it to 31-24 and still wasn't enough.
Congrats to the Rutgers Scarlet Knights on winning their first Bowl game after 10 years in the Bad Boy Mowers Pinstripe Bowl at Yankees Stadium. Head Coach Greg Schiano and rest of coaching staff deserves a lot of credit for keeping their players heads up fighting till the end to get a chance to do something special. They end the season at 7-6 with a great recruiting class this year as Rutgers football is looking bright for future. As they say Chop in Scarlet Knights Nation with a great year to finish on.
