Marlboro was looking for their first win of the season coming into this matchup against Rumson with a young team still finding a identity and trying to improve each day. Rumson were looking to continue their strong start to the year with a experienced roster and tough team to game plan against. Can Marlboro finally get their first win of season or can Rumson keep home field advantage in tact. Marlboro's goal was just to keep this game close as possible and compete.
Rumson started this game off to a hot start on offense and setting the tone one defense. They were lights out from three point line, forcing turnovers, making it tough on Marlboro and playing great team basketball. Rumson has everything going early and had a 12 point lead after one heading to second quarter by a score of 18-6. Marlboro did a better job in the next quarter getting better shots at the basket and playing good defense. They made a late run before halftime cutting Rumson's lead to 29-18 at the break. Marlboro got some momentum back but can they keep it going in second half.
In the third quarter, Marlboro struggled again on defense as Rumson outscored them 35-16 in second half. They let the lead slip away more which made it tough on a comeback. Rumson did a fantastic job of preventing Marlboro from making another run and were leading 48-29 heading to last quarter. Rumson's defense continued to dominant with a strong fourth quarter keeping the intensity up. Marlboro couldn't find success finding open shots as they only scored 5 points. Rumson kept pouring it on scoring 14 points in fourth quarter.
Rumson gets a 62-34 victory improving to 6-3 and Marlboro falling to 0-7. They were just too much to handle at home and with a more talented roster. Marlboro can take some positives out from this game but still growing as a team.
