Montclair State University women's basketball ended 2023 on a positive note beating Albright 84-71 improving to 6-7 this season and having momentum going into 2024. Montclair has been thru a lot of ups and downs already but continue to show fight in each game. They love playing at home and what a way to end a year finishing where home field advantage can help players. Coming into this matchup Albright was having a down season at 3-7 looking to keep improving as Montclair were trying to play close to 500 basketball. Albright competed in the game but wasn't enough for them to win.
The Red Hawks got off to a hot start against Albright getting easy baskets, playing great defense, forcing turnovers and drawing fouls. Their offense set a big tone which gave them momentum and confidence the whole game. Albright had trouble overcoming the mistakes they had, couldn't stop Montclair at all most of this matchup and didn't really have a game plan. Red Hawks tooke advantage of all that and didn't let up after. They were leading Albright 21-12 heading into the second quarter where Montclair kept pushing the lead while Albright got some better shots up. Red Hawks had a 44-29 lead heading into halftime with a little adjustments to be made as they were locked in.
Montclair State University women's basketball outscored Albright 40-22 in second half as their defense was fantastic. Albright tried to make run but the Red Hawks didn't let that happen and limited their opportunities. They also did a great job on the rebounds with second chance points which helped them win this game. Red Hawks improve to 6-7 heading into 2024 with big victory over Albright as they fall to 3-8 now. Amanda Castro had a huge impact in this game with 5 points, 1 steal, 1 assist and 1 rebound.
