Monmouth Hawks women's basketball hosted Brown on a Sunday afternoon live at Ocean First Bank Center as they were looking to go 500 while Brown was trying to go over the 500 mark in that early season. Monmouth was also looking for their first win in schools history against Brown coming in the game 0-2 lifetime. Both teams were going thru their pregame routine, getting ready for the game, with the national anthem and starting lineup intros. Can Monmouth or Brown come up with a big win for their program as this game didn't disappoint at all.
It was a defensive first quarter with both teams still trying to find a groove on offense while the defenses did a great job of limiting shots to set a tone early. Monmouth starting to find open looks during the halfway mark in first quarter while the defense was putting pressure, getting blocks and forcing turnovers. Brown really had a tough time finding open looks at the basket but their defense was great also. Monmouth took a three point lead heading into the second quarter up 11-8 which helped in a big way to get confidence in second quarter.
Monmouth Hawks dominated the second quarter against Brown's defense as the shots kept on falling, expecially from behind three point line. Their defense was still playing great with them having all the momentum now before halftime. Brown struggled on defense big time in this second quarter by letting Monmouth get easy shots anywhere they were on the court. Plus the second chance points were huge as they killed Brown on the boards. The Hawks scored 25 in second quarter while only giving up 14 and had a 36-22 lead at halftime.
The second half would be a different story for Monmouth as Brown made major adjustments it seems like for third and fourth quarter. Brown came out with fire, they were locked in, focused and put the first half behind them. Brown outscored Monmouth 37-23 in second half with a complete comeback and turnaround. Monmouth couldn't hold onto the 14 point lead but their defense did give them some chances to win this game. They had a hard time stopping Brown's offense which helped them find open shots better, playing like a team, forcing turnovers and drawing fouls.
This game came down to the wire as Brown stunned Monmouth 59-58 shocking everyone in the arena improving to 4-3 this season as Monmouth drops to 2-4. Brown did a fantastic job of not giving up, believing in themselves and making it tough on them. What a game to end Thanksgiving break for everyone.
