Before the big game yesterday between Manasquan and Ranney for Shore Conference Tournament First Round, Warriors honored Hope Masonius for her 1000th career point. Masonius family was attendence along with her sister Faith Masonius who plays for Maryland Terrapins in the Big Ten. It was a great ceremony for Hope as they took pictures on the court and all her hard work that she puts into this game. Big Blue Warriors has been one of the top teams in girls highschool basketball over the years underneath head coach Lisa Kukoda who is well respected also. They were 17-4 coming into this matchup against Ranney who was 10-9.
Manasquan got off to quick start in this game against Ranney's defense as their offensive explosion was the big story. Ranney had a tough time from the beginning stopping the Big Blue Warriors and couldn't keep up with their scoring. Manasquan did a fantastic job drawing fouls early putting them in foul trouble right away and rebounding the ball on offensive side also. Katie Collins got things going for the Warriors as she established the inside and hitting three pointers. Both teams were struggling with turnovers but Manasquan took advantage of Ranney's mistakes as they had a 16-7 lead heading into the second quarter.
Ranney still had trouble scoring the basketball in second quarter but did a better job on defense forcing tougher shots. Then Manasquan started to heat up from the three point line which extended their lead even more. Along with Katie Collins, Olivia Shaughnessy Hope Masonius and Shea Donnelly they also got going on offensive side helping out Collins big time. The theme of this quarter was defense as Ranney scored only 2 but gave up 7 to the Warriors. Big Blue had a 23-9 lead going into the halftime where Ranney needed to make major adjustments in order to stay in this game.
Manasquan went on a rampage in second half as they outscored Ranney 52-13 during third and fourth quarters. Their scoring went up big time as Masonius was not missing from the three point line. Warriors also got key contributions from their bench players who are also talented and getting the experience. Big Blue Warriors got a commanding 65-22 win against Ranney in the Shore Conference Tournament First Round and improves to 18-4 this season. Their next game is tomorrow against St. Rose on the road at 11:45 am eastern in Shore Conference Tournament, Quarterfinal round.
