Los Angeles Lakers are always known for making history as a franchise and big into having an family environment. They did something really unique, special yesterday during the 2024 NBA Draft as the team drafted LeBron's son 55 overall Bronny James making them the first father/son duo in NBA history. What an incredible moment for the James family as they were in New York together having dinner. GM Rob Pelinka and new head coach JJ Redick made the call to Bronny, agent Rich Paul and his family that he was going to be drafted at 55. Once that happened, then the James family celebrated realizing this moment and how amazing it can become.
Here is Bronny James at the All American game with his father LeBron.
Bronny James is only 19 years old coming from Sierra Canyon high school which has one of the top schools over the years when it comes to player development and coaching. Bronny has always had the spotlight on him at a young age with his father LeBron being one of the top players in NBA right now. Bronny is 6'2 with a 6'7 wingspan as he continues to develop and has a lot of room to grow as a player. He 14.2 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.8 steals per game, leading Sierra Canyon to a 23–11 record in his senior year. Then Bronny decided on USC to play college basketball getting closer to his goal. Bronny has great work ethic as a player, ready for every challenge and listens to his coaches.

Before Bronny stepped on the court with USC he had a scary moment as he went into cardiac arrest with his family in shock. Everyone was surprised to hear this news when it happened and worried that he was not going to play again. But Bronny's mindset was strong, having his family around him and support system believing in him. It was a long process for Bronny coming back and once he got cleared to play again it was a huge relief for everyone involved. Bronny first game with USC was special because it ended up being in front of the home crowd. He got a huge standing ovation when stepping on the court in his USC debut which was a special moment to see.
Bronny played 25 games for USC, started six of them, averaging 4.8 points, 2.1 assists and 2.8 rebounds. For him just to be able to play basketball again after that health scare is just unbelievable and remarkable as he continued to achieve his goal. The stats don't really mean anything, he has talent, room to grow and is only 19 years old. Bronny did a fantastic job showing teams his potential during the NBA Draft combine which was another huge step for him. He only worked with the Los Angeles Lakers and Phoenix Suns and also great meetings with them. Lakers always had interest in Bronny, they believe with their player development and his father still playing it will only help him get better. LeBron and his wife Savannah raised him really well, Bronny is respectful to everyone on/off the court.
Bronny James dream finally became a reality on Thursday June 27th 2024 as the Los Angeles Lakers drafted him with the 55th overall pick and what an incredible story after what he has been thru. Congrats to him, his family, friends and coaches who helped Bronny along the way to get to this point. Now it's all the hard work he puts in with Lakers and it will be awesome to see LeBron and Bronny on the court at the same time in a Lakers uniform.
Los Angeles Lakers also understand that LeBron James still has to make a decision about his future as he can opt out of his contract to become a free agent or opt back in to stay with this team. So it will be interesting to see what happens in the next couple of weeks with his agent Rich Paul.
