Jackson Memorial Jaguars honored their three seniors Allison Vanderwood, Chelsea Lavezzo and Colleen Smink before the game yesterday against Toms River South. It was an amazing ceremony as the parents came on the court to take pictures with them along with their coaches. It's always hard to see players go from highschool but you realize that they are about to start their next journey of careers which can lead them to bigger things in basketball. Toms River South who is led by head coach Christine Scherm was two games under 500 at 6-8 coming into this matchup. Jackson were looking for their seventh win in a row as they are playing great team basketball right now.
Jaguars got off to a hot start in first quarter shooting lights out and playing fantastic defense. Toms River South had trouble right from the beginning, had no answers, confused and out of sorts. Jackson did a great job of drawing fouls early in this game by driving to the basket more as they were struggling a little bit from three point line. Isabella Finer and Chelsea Lavezzo set the tone for Jackson on offense as Toms River South's was not performing well at all. Jaguars pitched a shutout in first quarter leading 15-0 going into the second quarter with all momentum and confidence.
Toms River South finally got on the board in second quarter from Meagan Weatherstone which would be the only points they scored. Jackson took it to another level against their defense as they went on a huge run before halftime. They scored 16 points in second quarter leading 31-2 at halftime. Toms River South didn't have it the whole game with Jaguars clicking on all cylinders. Jackson had a big second half outscoring them 31-17 continuing their hot shooting. The biggest key was rebounding as Jaguars had a successful stat line for that category.
Jackson Memorial Jaguars had major performances/contributions from Avery Brooks, Cali Brown, Isabella Finer, Kaylee Ambos, Natalie Bowes, Madison Fagliarone, Julianna Old, Chelsea Lavezzo, Allison Vanderwood, Colleen Smink and Gianna Berkley as they continue their great play on the court. Jaguars get a complete team victory over Toms River South by a score of 62-19, getting their seventh win in a row and improving to 13-3 this season. The next game for Jaguars is tomorrow February 1st at southern with tipoff being 6:30 Pm Eastern.
