Jackson Memorial and Toms River East battle in the Shore Conference Tournament Preliminary Round which is a huge game for both teams. Raiders and Jaguars have winning records coming into this matchup where it could be one of the best games on schedule. The biggest key for Jackson was how to game plan against Toms River East without Cali Brown in the lineup and rest of the bench needed to step up yesterday. Raiders can shoot the ball at a high level with Yana Shupak and Sydney Murphy especially. Lets find out who will be victorious is this big showdown.
First quarter was all about defense as the Jaguars struggled early with turnovers but Raiders couldn't really convert those into points. Both teams couldn't find a bucket as their defenses did a great job of staying at the spot and switching. Jackson had a 5-4 lead going into the second quarter where Toms River East started to heat up. The Raiders dominated that quarter going on a 10-3 run at one point and Jackson still struggling with turnovers. Jaguars were able to find shots but still couldn't really get anything going as they cooled down. Yana Shupak, Sydney Murphy and Kaleigh Fitzgibbons started to heat up for Toms River East.
Toms River East Raiders ended up outscoring Jackson Memorial 17-8 in second quarter as they had a 21-13 lead at halftime. The Jaguars needed the make adjustments on defense, find better ways to get baskets and limit the turnovers. It picked up between these two teams in second half with high intensity as Jackson was still turning the ball over but Toms River East were struggling to convert on some of those. Jaguars did a better job in third and fourth quarter on defense outscoring the Raiders 23-15. Avery Brooks, Isabella Finer, Chelsea Lavezzo, Kaylee Ambos, Julianna Old all stepped up for Jackson.
Jackson Memorial Jaguars did a fantastic job rebounding the ball as Isabella Finer and Julianna Old were both in double figures for that. This game ends up going into overtime with a crazy ending in fourth quarter. Toms River had trouble scoring the ball while Jackson turned up the dial to another notch to shut them down outscoring East 4-1 to end this game. Jaguars gets a thrilling 40-37 overtime victory over the Raiders and improving to 15-4 this season.
Jackson Memorial Jaguars next game is tomorrow February 8th against Red Bank Catholic at 5:30 Pm Eastern which is called the Shore Conference Tournament, First Round.
