Jackson Memorial and Brick Memorial matched up against each other in a huge showdown with both teams coming into this game with 8 wins. The Jaguars and Mustangs wanted to continue their momentum as they try to keep pace with other teams. Head coach Rachel Goodale and Thomas Lecorchick have tons of experience, respected by other peers in high school basketball. Going into this type of game, you expect a close, tough and an intense situation until the final buzzer sounds.
Brick Memorial Mustangs was struggling with the turnovers early in the game as Jaguar's defense was playing high intensity right from start. Jackson had a 8-2 lead in first quarter then the Mustangs went on a 10-0 run and took a 12-8 lead. Brick did a better job of making quick adjustments on defense, looked for high percentage buckets and had a different mindset during that run. They ended up having a 16-13 lead over Jackson heading into the second quarter. Both teams were missing some key free throws which could have been a big difference in this matchup for sure.
The Jaguars dominated second quarter by picking up intensity even more on both ends of court. Took advantage of Brick's turnovers and turned them into easy transitions buckets. Their rebounding was huge as they combined for 32 as a team against Mustang. Brick struggled big time in second quarter and lost their mojo for a little. This game was all about runs which the Jaguars scored another 13 points in first half and only giving up 4 before halftime. Jackson had a 26-20 lead heading into the break feeling great about themselves as Mustangs had to find their groove again.
Jaguars combined for 25 points while the Mustangs has 23 in second half as Brick did a great job of keeping the game close. Jackson had success hitting the three pointers from number 3 Kaylee Ambos which was also a big difference in this game. Mustangs had three players in double figures but still wasn't enough as Jackson gets a 51-43 victory over Brick improving to 9-3 this season while the Mustangs drops to 8-6. It was a huge win for coach Goodale and her team as they continue to focus on getting as much victories as possible down the stretch.
