It was block party central yesterday between Jackson Memorial Jaguars and Toms River East was they combined for 13 blocks in this game. It was a tough test for the Jaguars as Toms River East has a lot of talent also scoring the ball, playing defense and well coached with Kevin Cohen. Jackson was on a three game winning streak coming into this matchup with momentum and confidence. It was a close game between these two teams the whole time with multiple runs and great defense.
The first was all about defense as both teams combined for 16 points as they set a tone early forcing turnovers and blocked shots. Tom's River East was up by 6 8-2, then Jackson made a run cutting their lead to two heading into second quarter with East up 9-7. Jaguars did a great job of not letting the game slip when they got off to a hot start against their defense. Going into the second quarter both teams needed to switch it up on offense and have better flow. The Jaguars ended up starting off second quarter strong and had a huge run.
Jackson prevented Tom's River East from scoring midway thru the second quarter as they went on a 16-0 run. The turnovers were still an issue but the Jackson did fantastic job of taking advantage of East's mistakes. They were up 20-9 at one point with 1:49 left in second quarter, then Tom's River East ended the quarter on high note before halftime. They cut the Jaguars lead to 26-15 with some confidence back going into the break. This sets up for an exciting second half as everyone was wondering which team would make the key adjustments in this crazy game.
Toms River East flipped the game in a heartbeat during third quarter as they had a huge run of their own playing great defense and finding better open buckets at the basket. They were on a 9-1 run with Jackson struggling big time which led to give up the lead eventually at 29-28 but they didn't let that get to them. Even though the shooting was an issue for Jackson, they still had a 34-29 lead going into the fourth quarter. It crazy in last quarter as both teams turned it up a notch by continuing the block party, scoring back and forth. They did a great of getting to the free throw line but missed some key ones.
It got crazy at the end as Toms River East hit a last second three and got fouled but no time left for them. Jackson Memorial Jaguars gets a thrilling victory at home winning 47-45, improving to 10-3 this season as Toms River East falls to 8-7. Jackson continues to find ways to win these games in different situations which helps them as a team. They have now won four games in a row as Jackson gets ready for a road game tomorrow against Toms River North at 6:30 Pm Eastern.
