Jackson Memorial Jaguars girls basketball continued their strong start to the season on Wednesday December 27th as they took on Hudson Catholic in the Holmdel Holiday Showcase at Holmdel High School. The Jaguars has been clicking on all cylinders to get ready for this tournament with great team basketball and confidence from coaching staff. Hudson Catholic is a well coached team also which made this matchup really interesting and was definitely high intensity the whole game. Jackson Memorial had their run for the money against Hudson Catholic.
The first quarter was back and fourth between these two teams when it came to scoring the basket. They both were finding great shots, forcing turnovers and playing decent defense. Whenever someone made a shot or two, the other team came right back to get buckets of their own. Jaguars knew that Hudson Catholic would not give up that easily in this game and continued to focus on the bigger picture. Jackson had a 13-11 lead heading into the second quarter where Hudson Catholic got some momentum back there.
During the second quarter both teams actually had trouble finding shots as their defenses started to put pressure and kept forcing turnovers. Then Hudson Catholic got some open looks at the basket against Jaguars defense while Jackson's offense was trying to find it also. Hudson Catholic took over this quarter by scoring 11 points, giving up 8 and having a 22-21 lead heading into halftime. Third and fourth quarter really got intense where Jackson Memorial dominated the third quarter with better defense and lights out shooting.
It was the Jaguars show in third quarter as coach Rachel Goodale's team pit another gear on and took off. Their offense was outstanding while the defense stepped up another notch putting more pressure on Hudson Catholic's offense. Jackson had all the momentum going into fourth quarter scoring 14 points, giving up 6 and having a 35-28 lead heading into last quarter. The refs did miss some important calls in this game for both teams which made it a nail bitter towards the end. Hudson did a great job keeping it close trying to make a comeback but wasn't enough as Jackson Memorial Jaguars improved to 4-0 this season 2-0 in shore with a 50-43 victory.
Shout-out to coach Rachel Goodale, assistant coaches Stephanie, Justin and rest of staff for always keeping these players ready for big moments like this where they get experience playing on tournaments and how to win games. This team is locked in right now, believes in each other as a group and loves playing for coach Goodale.
