Head Coach Rachel Goodale and Jackson Memorial Jaguars matched up against West Windsor Plainsboro North in the NJSIAA Tournament, First Round, Central Jersey Group 4. Jaguars were 16-6 while West Windsor was 13-10 coming into this game. Jackson was favored against them being at home, having Goodale as a coach, playing great throughout the season and their younger players ready for this moment. Players to watch in this shows with were Isabella Finer, Avery Brooks, Chelsea Lavezzo, Cali Brown and Julianna Old. Jaguars had the advantage over West Windsor when it comes to their power forward and center position.
The first quarter was close as West Windsor did a good job of keeping up with Jackson's scoring but turnovers were an issue for them. Jaguars took advantage of them and converted with positive transition buckets. Jackson was up 10-4 at one point but West Windsor made a run to end the first quarter on a high note. Jaguars defense was fantastic even though that run happened as they had a 11-9 lead going into the second quarter. West Windsor was out of sorts with all their turnovers which got them in a tough situation.
Jackson Memorial Jaguars extended their lead big time going on a 11-0 run and West Windsor' defense was struggling. Isabella Finer was a force down low near the basket as West Windsor had trouble stopping her. Finer had success rebounding the ball also, kept getting easy layups and hit a three pointer in this game. Chelsea Lavezzo started to heat up for the Jaguars getting to the free throw line and drawing fouls. Jackson's defense was still tenacious against West Windsor's offense as they only scored 2 points. Jaguars outscored them 15-2 in second quarter and having a 26-11 lead at halftime.
West Windsor started to make a run in third quarter as they cut the lead to 10 but Jackson did a great job of preventing a bigger comeback from them. Jaguars had other big contributions from Cali Brown, Madison Fagliarone, Kaylee Ambos, Julianna Old and Avery Brooks. Lavezzo kept going to the basket at a high rate and drew fouls against their defense which was a huge positive for Jackson. Jaguars had a 36-22 lead going into the fourth quarter where they put it away real quick. They outscored West Windsor 18-10 in last quarter helping getting a 54-32 quality team win.
Player of the game was Isabella Finer who finished with 17 key points for Jackson Memorial Jaguars. Their next game is against Freehold Township on February 26th with the time to be decided still. They improve to 17-6 this season as a team underneath head coach Rachel Goodale.
