Coming into yesterday's game Franklin was two games under 500 at 9-11 while Holmdel were four over 11-7. This game was huge for both teams but especially for Franklin as they wanted to show everyone who their team is in the Coaches Choice USA/Shore Challenge Tournament. The Warriors out of Franklin township New Jersey who is coached by Darryl Robinson II has a talented roster even though the record doesn't show. They have five seniors currently on their team with a lot of experience. The players to watch out for on Franklin were Alissa Myers, Iyanna Cotten and Aleah Sunkins.
Players to watch out for on Holmdel were Allison Cannon who recently reached a milestone getting her 1000th career point, Michelle Steele and Mackenzie Teevan. Holmdel starting this game a little slow by giving up early turnovers to Franklin as they took advantage of those mistakes. Both teams did a good job of getting to the basket and drawing fouls in order to get high percentage buckets. It was a tight game in first quarter between these two teams as fouls were called at a rapid rate. Holmdel ended beating the buzzer with a touchdown pass going to the second quarter with a 12-9 lead.
Allison Cannon started to do her thing for Holmdel as she was able to find the shots against Franklin's defense. They did a better job on defense forcing the Warriors to take tougher shots but it was still high intensity. Holmdel was still getting to the free throw line at a high rate dominating the second quarter. Franklin did make a run cutting their lead to three but the Hornets was able to extend the lead to 9 heading into halftime by a score of 29-20. The turnovers was still kind of an issue in this game as both teams needed to make adjustments about that.
The second half was all Franklin as they outscored Holmdel 34-23 in third and fourth quarters playing much better defense. Aleah Sunkins was heating up also and made It tough on Holmdel to stop her. Both teams had other players step up big time to keep this game close. The Warriors has three players in double figures while Hornets has two throughout this game. It could have went either way in the ending but Franklin gets a big victory over Holmdel with a score of 54-52 improving to 10-11 and Hornets falling to 11-8.
