Last night Brick Memorial Mustangs girls basketball hosted Toms River North Mariners for a game where two of top players with the Mariners was not playing. Mustangs was trying to stay perfect this season while the Mariners were looking for their first win of the year. Toms River North knew coming in this would be a tough game without their two top players and have to adjust a little differently. Brick Memorial was ready to go being at home and trying to continue the strong start to season. This matchup had something to give for both teams.
Brick Memorial Mustangs girls basketball started of the game with fantastic defense, shooting the ball well, drawing fouls and forcing turnovers. The Mariners struggled this whole game with defense, offense and didn't have a game plan in my opinion. Mustangs took advantage of there mistakes which turned into bigger leads that was held till the end. The three point field goals helped out Brick Memorial in a huge way during this matchup. They outscored the Mariners 26-10 in first half heading into halftime.
The second half was also dominated by Brick Memorial as they continued their hot shooting, great defense, getting to the basket and second chance points was a big key in this win. Mariners didn't really have anything left to make a comeback in the game and really missed their two top players yesterday big time. Mustangs held them to single digits points in every quarter which is unbelievable. They ended up beating the Mariners 46-25 improving to 3-0 this season, having all the momentum and confidence to win every game in different ways.
