Brick Memorial Mustangs Girls Basketball went on the road yesterday to face Barnegat Bengals as they continue to play over 500 basketball. Barnegat also had a winning record coming into this matchup as it was a big game for both teams. The Mustangs are A South while Bengals are B South trying to keep up in their respective conference. This game was close throughout and it had crazy ending. Who will come out on top, let's find out and see.

Mustangs got off to a strong start on defense early with forcing turnovers, getting transition baskets from it. They made it tough for the Bengals to find shots early but Barnegat's defense did a decent job also early. Then they started to find open baskets against Brick's defense heading into second quarter. The Mustangs had a 15-3 lead going into next quarter where it was defense for both teams. They made adjustments which brought more intensity and a low scoring second quarter heading into halftime.

The Bengals scored only 9 points while Mustangs had 8 and Brick was leading 23-22 at halftime. Third quarter was pretty much the same outcome as second quarter where both defenses did a fantastic job of preventing easy shots and forcing turnovers. The coaches were intense also making sure their players were on task the whole game. Heading into the fourth quarter, Brick had a 31-28 lead as we were in for a show towards the end. Let's see what happened in last quarter of this anticipated matchup.

Both offenses started to pick it up with better passing, finding open teammates, getting to the free throw line more and slowing down the tempo. They ended up scoring 14 each in fourth quarter but Brick Memorial still came out on top with this huge victory at the end beating Barnegat Bengals 45-42 and improving to 5-3 this season. Barnegat falls to 500 at 3-3 but played till the end and never gave up. This win should give the Mustangs more momentum and confidence for their other games.
