"Blane Abeyta Dominant As Ben Rice Walks It Off For Somerset On Star Wars Night In 11th Inning"

Last night at TD Bank Ballpark it was Star Wars night for the fans as Somerset wore their dark blue and red Star Wars jerseys as they continued the series against Erie. Most of the people who were part of the pregame festivities wore Star Wars costumes and took pictures. They had the tarp on earlier but luckily ended up clearing before start time, players were ready to go and locked in. Somerset is trying to finish this season strong and get ready for the playoffs coming up around September 19th time on the road. Blane Abeyta was on the mound yesterday for Somerset Patriots.

Blane Abeyta was dominant even though giving up two runs and one of them being a home run. Abeyta's stuff looked sharp from the beginning, locating where he wanted, his secondary pitches were also nasty as some of the hitters from Erie had trouble. Abeyta ended up going 6.0 innings, 2 hits, 2 runs, 2 er, 1 walk, 8 strikeouts, 1 home run, 85 pitches and 52 strikes. After this start, Blane has lowered his era to 5.58 on the season taking another positive step forward heading into the thick of things when it comes to high pressured moments in the playoffs.

The Somerset Patriots bullpen did a fantastic job of keeping their offense in the game starting with Jesus Liranzo who went 1.1 innings, 2 hits, 1 run, 1 er, 1 walk, 1 strikeout, 35 pitches and 22 strikes. Then it was Danny Watson going 2.1 innings, 0 hits, 0 runs, 0 er, 0 walks, 1 strikeout, 28 pitches and 16 strikes. Last it was Ryan Anderson who got the win (2-1) 1.1 innings, 0 hits, 0 runs, 0 er, 1 walk, 1 strikeout, 16 pitches and 9 strikes. They made big contributions in this win yesterday as it gave a momentum boost to the offense.

Their offense was really well balanced, working the count, making it tough on the bases, getting good pitches to hit, moving runners and taking advantage of wild pitches. Erie's pitching had some trouble putting away the Patriots hitters and got their pitch count up high so early. Somerset had a total of 9 hits yesterday with contributions from Mickey Gasper (who hit his 5th home run of season), Ben Rice having a 4 hit game, 2 rbis, Spencer Jones with two hits and Grant Richardson with a hit as they beat Erie 4-3 in 11 innings with a walk off single by Ben Rice improving to 78-51 on the season.
