Last night it was a packed house live from TD Bank Ballpark as Yankees legend Ron Guidry made an appearance at the stadium and reuniting with Sparky Lyle. Before the game they did a fantastic pregame for Guidry doing a q and a with Sparky Lyle, telling interesting stories for the fans and sharing best moments with the Yankees. Then once the game started Ron Guidry was in the concourse signing autographs and taking pictures with everyone. Guidry must have given Somerset pitching extra motivation last night as they were dominant against Hartford Yard Goats hitting.
Chase Hampton was on the mound for Somerset as he went 5.0 innings, 4 hits, 0 runs, 0 er, 1 walk, 6 strikeouts, 93 pitches and 60 strikes. Then Tanner Myatt came in next pitching 2.0 innings, 2 hits, 0 runs, 0 er, 1 walk, 1 strikeout, 33 pitches and 24 strikes. Last it was Jack Neely who got the win (1-1) going 3.0 innings, 1 hit, 1 run, 0 er, 0 walks, 4 strikeouts, 35 pitches and 28 strikes. They were able to locate their pitches, get big double play and limit the damage. Pitching coach Grayson Crawford did a great job of keeping them focused and giving a game plan going into the game.
The Somerset Patriots was quiet during the game until bottom of tenth with catcher Ben Rice coming up clutch hitting a walk off grand slam as there was two outs. Rice got a great pitch to hit and luckily it went over the wall as they improve to 68-46 now on this season. Hartford Yard Goats pitching did a fantastic job against Somerset hitters as they kept them guessing and got key outs also in the game. We did a post game recap on Somersets exciting win, Ben Rice clutch grand slam, great pitching, Everson Pereira Yankees debut, Grant Richardson and other potential call ups.
